Afterfeast of the Theophany of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
The fourth day of the Afterfeast of Theophany is today January 10. Some of the hymns of this period compare the streams of the Jordan to the life-giving waters of Baptism.
WATCH ‘The Icon of Theophany’, a five-minute video by Trisagion Films that describes the imagery and symbolism of this festal icon.
LISTEN to a beautiful rendition of ‘Agni Parthene’ (‘O Virgin Pure’) by the Valaam Bredhren Choir, translated into Church Slavonic by the Valaam Monestary in Russia, known by Orthodox Christians for centuries as “The Northern Athos”.
Our church’s very own patron Saint Nektarios of Aegina composed this hymn-poem after reportedly having a vision of the Theotokos. The poem-song was written much like a canon in that it has nine odes. The original hymn script can still be viewed on Saint Nektarios’ prayer table in his bedroom at the monastery.
